Where to begin?

Yesterday I reset the Raccoon trap with a new can of cat food. I also moved it to the other side of the pool, nearer to the step that the little bugger steps onto in the shallow end of the pool. A few other things I did was put the cage in a heavy weight dark plastic bag and put most of the cage under the bench.

See a few things the Raccoon has taught me, 1) it loves to shred plastic, 2) it is extremely capable of getting the bait out of the cage without going in and one way is to pull it apart through the bars (including chicken bones -not kidding). So it appears my limiting its access to just the front and the can of Friskies white fish dinner in a can smelling up that plastic bag did the trick!!!

Yes, this morning I woke up, peeked out the window because my behavior has changed so much that I don’t even pee or get dressed first anymore, I look for that damn raccoon. So I look out the window expecting to see the plastic bag and the only way I would be able to tell would be if the door was down, but noooooo………

There on its back wrestling with the can and every inch of that plastic bag shredded into small tiny bits was the Raccoon. My heart started racing, now I had to deal with it which was a fleeting moment of dread. So I let Missy out who must have known because she ran directly for the fence and stood there barking letting me know there was an intruder. No worries Missy I am way ahead of you.

I went outside, pulled the cage out from under the bench, the smell was horrible raccoon shit mixed with Friskies which really alone is bad enough and fear…. Peeewwwe.

I didn’t touch the cage, I pulled it out by hooking the garden claw to the cage and pulling, the damn thing lunged at me so hard it moved the cage and it growled. So if I wasn’t nervous before, I was now. I covered the cage with the towel and tried to pick it up by the handle but the bastard had bent the handle so it was no longer latched and it was reaching through the bars. I went to the shed and got a luggage cart and tipped the cage onto it and rolled it to the back of the truck. I layed down a couple more dog towels and had to pick up the cage and put it up there. I did this will all forearm strength because there was no way I was getting close enough to use any other muscle group. That bad boy is heavy.

I drove it down to the state park, backed up to the woods, set my phone on camera (like I was gonna get another picture HA), pushed the trip plate down with a big stick that I brought and pulled up the gate with a bungee cord cause really I didn’t want to be to close to those claws or teeth. It took off out of there so fast there wasn’t even a millisecond left to think about pictures.

It has taken an hour or so to pick up all the bits of plastic, hose down the cage and fix the handle, put the luggage cart and tools away that I used, started a load of towels now with Raccoon fur, cat food, shit smears and probably piss on there.

Now the question remains……is there more then one, and did I move it far enough away?
