That's very biblical as you know, and I think you have too much patience with wildlife. You can't plant enough for them and you both. The more food you plant and make available, the more they eat and breed, and the more you will keep losing. Raccoons are not endangered in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest where we live and I'll bet the fish and game warden in your area will be fine with you killing as many as bother you. Get a trap, bait it with grapes (the crop I used to lose 75% of annually to raccoons) or nuts. In the morning, the raccoon will be hissing around in there, furious and terrified. Shoot him in the head with a 22 pistol; aim and look away as you shoot if you are afraid of feeling pity, or have your husband shoot him. Then go on cooks.com and check out all the great recipes for raccoon. If you're really feeling triumphant, sew a Davy Crocker hat out of the tail and skin. Hey, you can also try an electrified wire suspended a few inches above your 6 ft fence.
