We headed up to the house to work on Saturday morning, on the road before 7:00 and unloaded and working by 9:00 am.
We had quite a list to get through. One of the more challenging things were the door thresholds and re-hanging doors. Not that those tasks in general are super difficult but there is nothing standard about these doors.
We were about an hour in when Debbie and Doug from across the street came by to say hello. Doug is a door man. He is a carpenter that does a lot of finish work and specializes in doors. So it only took him a moment and answering one question before he went and got his truck (containing all the proper tools for this task), backed it into the driveway and put in the thresholds and hung or fixed all four doors.
It still took him several hours to complete while we worked on other things on the list. I can’t imagine the amount of work and frustration he removed from our day.
We worked well into the evening, stopping at 9pm and going to Denny’s for dinner. We had decided not to drive back home because of the rain. It certainly didn’t rain at our house were it was needed but it was pouring in Calimesa and although I have no problem driving in the rain most of the other people on the road are not that great.
We slept on a mattress on the floor, and were up and working again in the morning. We got home about 8:30 Sunday evening. We got a lot of the list done, more to come later on the weekend progress!
