Breaking in the sketch book

Today was a very full day.  We left the Villa at 9:15 this morning and met up in the heart of Verona for a little walking tour. Char’s father Martin who has lived here for over 30 years and is a history buff provided lots of entertaining facts and tidbits.

We covered the architecture from the 1400’s and castle inhabitants and history.  We walked toward and through several of the piazza’s.

We all split up at noon to have a couple hours to ourselves and lunch before meeting back up at two at an outdoor cafe.  This is were over several vodka-sorbet beverages and two hours we got several lessons in supplies techniques and spent sometime just breaking in the sketchbook.

This is harder than it sounds, if I’m going put stuff in it, well it should be worthy.  However never having drawn or painted how does one get from the beginning to at least more experienced i.e. worthy. Only through trying and doing.  So try and do I did.

The cover page now is no longer blank!  In fact several other pages are no longer blank and so far it’s been a lot of fun!

After breaking in the book we did some consistent line drawing exercises and blind consistent line drawings.  This was so much fun and the results very Picasso-esque.

We then walked back to where the vans were picking us up at 5:00. It was 6:00pm before we were back and I had my swollen toe out of my shoe.

Needless to say a little dinner a little proseco and more sketching followed.

The class tomorrow starts at 9:15 so I bid you good night.
